Roofing in Lake Los Angeles, CA
Shingle and tile repairs, reroofs and gutter work out in Lake Los Angeles, from a licensed roofer based in Palmdale.
Lake Los Angeles is the far east end of the valley we cover, past Sun Village and north of Pearblossom Highway. The houses are spread out and the wind has a long run at them. It is unincorporated Los Angeles County, so the roofing permit comes from county Public Works, not from Palmdale.
On a worn asphalt shingle roof, the first question is always whether a new layer can go over the old one. The county's answer is narrow. A new roof can go over an existing one only when inspection finds a single layer of asphalt shingle, wood shingle, metal, mineral-surfaced rolled roofing or built-up roofing. If there are two layers, or anything else, it all comes off to the deck. An overlay is cheaper on the day, but it also hides the deck.
Wind does most of the damage in this part of the valley. Shingles crease and tear at the tabs, ridge caps peel, and the rakes take the worst of it. Catch it early and it is a repair; leave a torn row for a winter and the deck under it starts to go.
If your house is in a fire hazard severity zone, the county's notes require a Class A roof covering. Many shingle and tile products carry a Class A rating; ask to see it on the product you are quoted.

Questions
Roofing Questions from Lake Los Angeles
Can a new shingle roof go over my old one in Lake Los Angeles?
Only if the county inspection finds a single existing layer of an allowed type, like asphalt shingle. Two layers, or tile, means a full tear-off to the deck.
My shingles are creased and lifting. Is that wind damage?
Usually. A crease across the shingle tab is where wind lifted it and folded it back. The seal is broken, and the next storm can take it off. It is a repair if you catch it early.
Does a roof in Lake Los Angeles have to be fire rated?
If your home is in a fire hazard severity zone, the county requires a Class A roof covering. Ask to see the rating on the product you are quoted.
