Roofing in Palmdale, CA
Tile and shingle reroofs, repairs and inspections from a roofer who is based in Palmdale. Free estimates, CA License #1130085.
Palmdale is where we are based. The city runs its own Building and Safety department, and it has written down exactly how a reroof gets inspected: Policy D-17. If you are about to replace a roof here, that policy decides when the inspector climbs up, what has to be on the driveway, and what paperwork changes hands at the end.
The sheathing inspection decides the schedule. Once the old roof is off and the plywood or OSB is bare, the job stops until the city has looked at the deck. Nothing new goes down before that: no underlayment, no battens, no tile. On a tile roof, the contractor may leave a limited path without tile so the inspector can reach what they need to see.
The other thing Palmdale checks is the material itself. Palmdale is climate zone 14, and the energy code sets a minimum reflectance for a steep-slope reroof. The city wants the tile or shingles on site in their original packaging, with the Cool Roof Rating Council label showing, so the inspector can read the numbers. So the colour you pick for a Palmdale reroof has to pass that rule; check the label before you fall for a colour.
Wind is the other half of roofing in this town. The repairs an open desert valley hands out are predictable: lifted shingles, tile knocked out of line at the rakes and ridges, and flashing that has worked loose. If you are not sure whether a roof needs a repair or a reroof, book the free estimate and we will get on it and tell you.

What the Rules Say in Palmdale
- 01
Two inspections on every reroof
D-17 lists a sheathing inspection after the old roofing is removed and before any underlayment, then the building and permit final. Both must pass before the permit is finaled.
- 02
A second layer is still inspected
Laying a new roof over a single existing layer still needs an inspection of conditions and materials before the new layer goes on.
- 03
The ladder rule
The inspector's ladder must extend at least 36 inches above the roof, be secured to the house and be rated for 250 pounds.
- 04
Smoke and CO alarms at the final
At the final, D-17 asks for the smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to be verified, for example with the signed Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm Verification form.
- 05
Labelled, reflective material
The city's cool roof sheet places Palmdale in climate zone 14 and asks for roofing that is certified and labelled by the Cool Roof Rating Council.

Questions
Roofing Questions from Palmdale
How do Palmdale reroof inspections get booked?
Through the city's Accela portal. You pick a day from Monday to Thursday and a morning or afternoon slot, and the request has a comment box for things like a locked gate or a dog in the yard.
Can I lay new shingles over my old ones in Palmdale?
Over a single existing layer it can be allowed, but Palmdale still inspects the old roof and the materials before the new layer goes on. If the deck under it is soft, an overlay hides the problem, and we will tell you so.
Where do I check if my Palmdale house is in a fire hazard zone?
The city has a fire hazard severity zone map where you can type in your address. Look it up before you choose a roof covering, because the zone can change what the roof has to be.
