Short answerIf your roof leaks under solar panels, the fix is a roofing job and a solar job, done in order. The panels come off, the roof is redone underneath, and the panels go back on. We do the roofing part: the tile, the underlayment and the flashing around the mounts. We don't do solar electrical work.

The panels come off first, the roof is redone around the mounts, and then the panels are reinstalled. We do the roofing part.
On our solar relay job you can see the mounts standing off the bare deck while the new underlayment and battens go down around them.
What are LA County's rules for solar on a reroof?
If a rooftop solar system is removed during reroofing, it has to be reinstalled under LA County Building Code Section 1511.9.
The county's reroofing manual covers roofs with and without solar energy systems, so this applies across the unincorporated towns we serve, from Quartz Hill to Pearblossom.

How many permits does a reroof under solar need in Tehachapi?
Two: one for the reroof and one to reinstall the solar.
Tehachapi's reroof permit sheet says any reroof with an existing roof-mounted solar array needs both. Other cities handle it their own way, so check with the building department for your address.
